Robert Coon (American, b.1941) is a painter, sculptor, and printmaker best known for his brightly colored, abstract sculptures in metal. Born in Charlotte, NC, Coon attended the University of Georgia (B.F.A.), and the University of Massachusetts (M.F.A.). Early in his career he concentrated on painting, utilizing various painting techniques. He gravitated toward gouache and oil, concentrating on painting for over a decade. He then moved toward three dimensions making unique waxes, cast in bronze or aluminum.  Since the mid 1980's his production has been primarily larger outdoor works fabricated in aluminum and painted, using bright colors. These sculptures often incorporate layers of brushwork.  On occasion the works have kinetic elements.

Coon has exhibited nationally and internationally since 1963.  His work is included in many collections: civic, academic, and individual.  He was artist in residence at the Vero Beach Museum of Art.
